Enhancement of Existing Communications Channels Introduces New Area of Focus
![]()
Client: Aeronautics Industry Association/National Defense Industrial Association
Issue: AIA and NDIA created a joint committee to create future scientists and engineers by attracting students to study science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). These industries are faced with a shortage of scientists and engineers and, therefore, must focus on building their own future workforce.
Solution: A communications campaign was launched which includes a monthly column, “STEM News” in National Defense Magazine, a new STEM-related portion to both AIA’s and NDIA’s websites, new STEM-related courses for the National Training and Simulation Association and the IT/TSEC Conference.
Outcome: The AIA/NDIA STEM Education Committee gained exposure and was instrumental in creating the Business & Industry STEM Education Coalition. This organization launched in D.C. in March, 2010 and has members from various factions including the government, education, science, technology, and entertainment industries. Their goal is to double the number of Bachelor’s degrees received in science in math by 2020.
